hello dearests :)
my name is Ana, I've a Degree in Social Communication and was a journalist for 12 years. I'm retired since 2010 due to health issues. photography brought me back to Life in July 2011 (when I bought myself a Nikon D90). this photo was taken by Marcos Appelt when I offered myself a photography session (and makeup too! yay!). loved it. I was curious to know how we feel on the other side of the camera and learned I like both experiences. since I don't really know what to write about myself I asked my friends to send me questions and dear Ms.Becky sent me a bunch that I intend to answer all. some will take more time than others. here we go...
when did you first picked up a camera, and what kind was it? my parents had a Kodak Instamatic and I was maybe 12 when I used it for the first time. was my first camera (still have it). there was a big hiatus between that moment and my cellphone (my second camera) but my mother had a Canon and I used to shoot every b'day party. loved to do portraits with that camera (great lens).
if you were a song, which song would you be? I'm that kind of person people think is very calm but underneath I'm pretty anxious and self-judgemental so I could be anything Diana Krall and Sinead O'Connor at the same time. something between The Look Of Love and Thank You For Hearing Me.
do you have a favorite poem? what poet inspires you? I published a poetry book in 2009 but I don't read poetry. to me, writing is like taking a picture, it has to make us feel something. since I'm portuguese, I wrote it in my language. now I can't write, it hurts too much. I'm in a healing process.
what is your favorite time of day? favorite holiday? I used to love the sunrise, the feeling of having a brand new day ahead. I had a life of my own, away from my parents home and I was very independent. since I got ill that everything changed, I had to leave all I've accomplished behind (only brought my cat with me) and I'm living at my mother's house. many times, I need her help to go outside. during my 20's and 30's I was enchanted with life. then it all broke into pieces and it's like having to learn how to live again at the age of 40's with a really low income and many fears. I guess my favorite time of day is when I'm shooting or playing with my photos on the computer. I'm a blogger since 2004 but had a big hiatus and only came back July 2011. between 2008 and that moment I played FarmVille every day. I needed something to take my mind of things. and I find the game cute. I've four Farms but I don't play them anymore (I've four Facebook accounts for that matter, lol). now I'm only a blogger. I'm back to being creative. to answer the all question: my favorite holiday is Christmas (no doubt about it). I dream of having a family of my own.
what tools are you using in your photography? favorite props? I only have the 18-105mm lens that came with the camera and I bought a Super Macro Conversion Lens from Raynox (that allows me to play a little with macro shots without the proper equipment). I asked for a tripod this Christmas and I'm planning on buying myself a 50mm lens. it's all pretty new to me, I'm only doing baby steps in photography. to edit I bought PSE 9 and sometimes I use Picnik.
if you could be a flower, what flower would you be? a sunflower (because of the color and of the light)
who or what is your muse? do you have an alter ego? the sun is my muse :) the light. when I was a little girl my alter ego was Wonder Woman, I liked to fly and bring peace to the world. as a grown woman my alter ego changed to Cat Woman. I like her strenght and independence.
what do you do to get yourself out of a dark mood? honestly, in this moment of my life I call my shrink for help. he is like a Guardian Angel. before, I used to go for a walk, that always helped me think straight. now, when I'm in a dark mood, I'm afraid of leaving the house. spending some time online always help me not to think but also makes me forget a lot about myself. the best I can get is numb and that is a bliss.
what is your favorite style of photography, and who is your mentor/influence in your photography/art? I've been trying a bit of everything and I like it all. I don't follow any particular photographer to be influenced,
what is your favorite season and why? I love all seasons. love the changing of seasons. gives me hope.
where would you like to go with your photography - and what is your personal style? I would like to know and use my camera only on manual mode. I believe my style is minimalistic.
what is your visual voice, and does it have a color or tone preference (black and white, vintage, sepia, etc.)? my visual voice is yet to be discovered. I love all colors and tones.
if you could put a soundtrack to your life, what songs would you include? The Big Chill soundtrack.
when you fear something, what do you do to take the leap and overcome it? I face the consequences and then I go to sleep. I've a healing sleep.
what is your truth today? Life might not be easy but it's simple.
who was the person who most influenced you, and how? the absence of my father.
what was the worst thing that ever happened to you? to be betrayed and abandoned.
what was the best day of your life? the day I went back to Lisbon (190 miles away from my family) to start my adult life.
do you have a favorite author/artist? Gustav Klimt.
if you could have dinner with one famous person, who would it be and why? right now! George Clooney :) because he is gorgeous and I know he would make me laugh.
how many pairs of shoes do you own? what is your favorite shoe color? I've two pairs of sneakers and one boots. I usually buy white sneakers with some blue.
do you have a motto that you live by? Life might not be easy but it's simple.
what is the most important life lesson you've learned so far? my motto.
what has been the most difficult obstacle for you to overcome in life? my illness.
what is your greatest fear? greatest love? my greatest fear: to go insane. my greatest love: my family and our cats.
if you could travel to any other planet, which would you choose, and why? I would love to see the Earth from the Moon. why? because I love this planet.
where would you like to travel to, and spend a year exploring? (or any amount of time). I would like to know all the continents and all the countries, on any amount of time it would require.
what do you love to do? all the simple things that makes me happy.
